Our Origins
Kanawha Café grew from a small idea in 2020 into an often-busy Covington gathering place, where European café traditions meet the warmth and welcome of the Appalachian community.
From Market Stall to Main Street
Owner Honorata Hogendobler, of Polish and German heritage, moved to Covington with her husband Jimmy and began sharing her breads at the Covington Farmer’s Market in May 2020. Their loaves quickly found loyal fans, and by September 2022 the couple opened Kanawha Café on Main Street in Olde Town Covington—now a fast-growing European bistro and coffee shop at 214 W Main St. Today, the café hums with neighbors gathering over coffee and simple, satisfying plates, having grown into a restaurant and full bakery offering breads, pretzels, sourdoughs, cakes, cookies, and pies for the community they now call home.
